Drogheda’s Urban Escape

The aim of this project is to transform Donaghy Mill in Drogheda into a detox getaway destination. The definition of health and wellness has evolved in recent times. The phrase no longer refers simply to a lack of illness or disease, but to a more holistic state of being, where one’s mental, physical and emotional health is in sync. Looking great, feeling good and sleeping well are the new luxuries people want to enjoy and flaunt. I chose Donaghy Mill in Drogheda as it overlooks the river Boyne walkway. The walkway would encourage visitors to partake in physical activity adding to their overall experience. The facility includes accommodation, health store, herbal tea rooms, cooking demonstration rooms, restaurant, mock-tail bar, yoga/meditation studio, fine art classroom, healing centre with treatment rooms, relaxation space, sauna, steam room and hydro pool.

My concept was developed throughout my experimentation with tea. I derived my concept shape from a curved teaspoon that is strategically shaped to sit on the edge of a teacup. I also took inspiration from the swirling shapes tea makes when milk is added. The interiors have a mix of neutral and strong colours which create a welcoming and uplifting energy. This project aims to create a healing environment, where people can stay and educate themselves on health and natural products, nutritional meals and partake in mindfulness activities.
